Hi, I’m Alex Howard, LSW
I began my academic journey at Penn State University, where I studied English before pursuing my Master of Social Work at Loyola University Chicago. My love of stories and the human experience naturally carried into my work as a therapist, where I help people explore their own paths toward healing and growth.
I started my career at Turning Point, a community mental health center where I worked for two years supporting clients from a wide range of backgrounds and with diverse needs. That experience deepened my commitment to trauma-informed care and taught me the importance of meeting people exactly where they are. Today, I practice at Courage to Connect Mental Health Center, where I continue that work with teens and adults navigating trauma, anxiety, depression, and life transitions.
My primary specialty is EMDR therapy, an evidence-based approach that helps the brain reprocess difficult experiences so they no longer feel as overwhelming. I also draw from CBT, ACT, mindfulness, and parts work (IFS) to tailor therapy to each client’s unique needs. No two clients are alike, so I value creating a collaborative, compassionate space where growth feels possible and progress feels real.
Outside of the therapy room, I value curiosity, creativity, and connection. Whether it’s reading, spending time outdoors, or enjoying a good conversation, I believe in finding the small, grounding moments that help us feel more fully human.
If you’re considering therapy, I know it takes courage to take that first step. I’d be honored to walk alongside you as you begin your own process of healing and self-discovery.
